Protecting the Eko Atlantic city, Lagos, Nigeria, against big swell

Twenty guests from Nigeria, France, Holland and China have visited DHI physical model testing facilities. Here they witnessed 3D physical model tests ensuring a stable and reliable revetment design for the Eko Atlantic city development project in Lagos, Nigeria.A successful visit convinced project owner, contractor, consulting engineers and authorities that the tested design in the DHI laboratory is a safe design. Witnessing tests gives DHI clients very valuable insight into the performance of the studies of structure interaction with extreme wave climates.

The Eko Atlantic city project involves reclaiming over eight square kilometres of land adjacent to Lagos, Nigeria. The new reclaimed area will give room for a mix of residential, commercial, financial and tourist accommodation. The project also aims to restore the land lost to coastal erosion over the last 60 years and provide a permanent solution to the problem. Construction is scheduled to begin early 2009. Upon completion Eko Atlantic city will provide residential accommodation for 250,000 people. The development is also expected to provide employment for at least 50,000 people.
